Crosscut will serve as the host venue for a thrilling weekend of ski racing for youth, junior, collegiate, and para athletes from Friday, February 23 through Sunday, February 25, 2024.

This is a unique opportunity to cheer on some of the world's best sit skiers including Oksana Masters, Kendal Gretch, Aaron Pike, and Dan Cnossen, as well as Crosscut Elite Team athletes Ty Wiberg and Nicole Zaino.

Trails will remain open to the public, with select closures on race courses.

Join us for a Community Biathlon Clinic

Are you curious about the sport of biathlon? Do you want to give it a try for yourself? Join us on Sunday, November 12th from 10am-1pm for a Community Biathlon Clinic!

Rifles and ammunition are provided. The clinic will be hosted on foot or on snow, weather dependent. Rentals will be available for those who may need them.

Come learn about rifle safety, and give shooting a try. There will also be ski or dry land instruction and a fun relay race at the end of the clinic.

Bobcat Trail Challenge at Crosscut

Run or Ride with the Bobcats!

The Bobcat Trail Challenge is coming back to Crosscut Mountain Sports Center on Sunday, October 1st 2024. Join us in supporting the MSU ski team, at this fun community driven event. With five different race options, there is an event for everyone!

Events

5k run

3 hour run

6 hour run

6 hour relay run (3 person relay teams)

Untimed fun run

  • All races start at 10am. The 3 hour run will end at 1:00pm, and the 6 hour run will end at 4:00pm.

  • There will be a fully stocked aid station at the start of the lap.

  • Additionally, each registered racer will receive an event hat and a chance to win other sweet raffle prizes.

  • All races will take place on the 5km run course.

  • Final laps for the 3 and 6 hour races must be completed before the cutoff time.

This clinic is designed for those who:

  • Recently purchased a mountain bike

  • Have never ridden a bike on singletrack trail

  • Are unfamiliar with the different components on their bike

  • Basic bike components, how to use and maintain them

  • Operation of controls

This clinic can be paired with our Fundamentals II Clinic, or stand alone. Skills learned in Fundamentals I progress well into Fundamentals II. For those looking for more advanced and dynamic skill work, you may want to step ahead to Fundamentals II.

This clinic is designed for those who:

  • Have prior experience riding non-technical singletrack

  • Have a basic understanding of their bike and how to use each component; shifting, braking

  • Have had little to no formal instruction on a mountain bike

Skill Focus:

  • Bike-body separation and range of motion

  • Operation of controls

  • Descending body position

  • Climbing body position

  • Trail scanning

  • Braking

This clinic is intended for intermediate to experienced riders with solid foundational skills who are looking to improve their ability to ride corners on varying terrain. We will break down the techniques involved in ascending and descending a variety of corners — including flat turns, berms, switchbacks, and tight turns.

This is a great next step for riders who complete our Fundamentals II clinic.

This series is designed for those who:

  • Have 2+ years of riding experience and are comfortable riding a variety of trails

  • Have basic skills involved in riding (e.g., basic riding body position, braking, shifting, etc.)

Skill Focus:

  • Body position

  • Trail scanning

  • Bike-body separation and range of motion

  • Steering and leaning

  • Balance

  • Pressure control

  • Downhill flat corner techniques

  • Downhill bermed corner techniques

  • Switchback techniques

Series Dates:

This is a 2 part series — we will meet for two 2-hour sessions over two weeks.

Youth Mountain Bike Race

NICA is hosting a double header mountain bike race Labor Day Weekend at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center. Middle and High School racers from across the region will be toeing the line on Saturday and Sunday.

Trail Closures

We will close our summer trail system to hiking and mountain biking during the event. Please respect the following closures.

  • Friday 5pm-Sunday 3pm

Volunteers Needed

Holding a race of this size requires a lot of volunteers, and Montana NICA could use some help! Please consider volunteering.

Spectators Welcome!

Come cheer on some of the best youth mountain bikers in Montana! Racers in middle school through high school will be giving it their best on a fun course with lots of climbs and descents. Cow bells, clapping, and hootin’ and hollerin’ words of encouragement welcome! Please follow the link below to our event parking in Lot D.

More About Montana Interscholastic Cycling League

The Montana Interscholastic Cycling League is a youth development organization working with the National Interscholastic Cycling League (NICA) as a Project League under NICA’s nonprofit umbrella. The Montana League is dedicated to building relationships in Montana communities that help promote healthy lifestyles in middle and high school youth, grades 6-12, through the lifelong sport of cycling.

The Montana League provides athletic opportunity to student-athletes of all skill levels and all socioeconomic backgrounds. Any child who wants to participate is welcome to join their local team. If the child does not have proper gear or cannot afford to purchase equipment necessary to participate, the Montana League is dedicated to helping provide the necessary items through our network of community-based gear donations and scholarships.
